Enhanced Library Remote Access at IMU University
Seamless Global Access Case Study
IMU University, a leading international private education institution in Malaysia, has been a member of SIFULAN Federation since 2019. Previously, the university managed an on-premise Shibboleth Identity Provider connected to its Active Directory (AD) and SIFULAN Federation for its Library Remote Access solution. In 2021, they migrated their AD to Microsoft Entra ID and adopted SIFULAN Connect to simplify integration with SIFULAN Federation. This setup ensures students, faculty, and staff can securely and seamlessly access library resources, institutional repositories, and other digital services.
By adopting SIFULAN Connect with SIFULAN Federation, IMU University enhanced library remote access and identity management, reducing administrative overhead and improving user experience. Unlike traditional IP-authentication-based solutions, identity federation allows seamless single sign-on across multiple platforms, including the library portal, institutional repositories, and library management system, while also enabling personalised access to services based on user roles. Additionally, SIFULAN Stats captures and analyzes authentication events, and Entra ID’s Multi-Factor Authentication ensures secure access to sensitive resources such as NIH services.
This case study demonstrates how SIFULAN Federation, in combination with SIFULAN Connect, can solve complex library remote access challenges for higher education institutions. Contact us to explore how your organization can implement the same secure, seamless library access solution.
